Danna Smith Children's Book Author

About Me

I wrote my first poem when I was six and haven't stopped writing since. A pen was my favorite toy and I took one with me everywhere I went. I thought (and still do) it was great fun to play with words, to mix them up and twist them around into a silly story or a poem that sparked emotion.

I was re-introduced to the picture book in high school when my creative writing teacher gave an assignment to write and illustration a picture book.  I knew then that one day, I wanted to be a picture book author. After college, I went to work and started my family but I kept writing in my spare time.

It wasn't until later, when I stopped working my full time job to stay home with my children that I decided it was time to learn all I could about writing for publication.

Born and raised in Utah, I have lived in Northern California for the past ten years with my husband, our two grown children, and a sweet little cocker spaniel named Peanut.

In my spare time I like to read, paint with watercolors, and dig in the dirt in my garden. Most of the time, however, you can find me at the computer playing with words.
